"KIBBY DINNER"

In the early 1960's after Father Nick Abraham came to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, a few women got together to make kibbies and sold them by the dozen to members of our church to help with our budget. The kibbies were prepared at the home of Mrs. Maggie Nasssar. Martha Nassar Doherty, Mrs. Kate Nassar, Mrs. Emile John, Yvonne John Khoury, Shirley Race, Lillian Settoon, Mrs. Susan Khoury, Wyvonne Harrison Khoury, Ruby Walters and Lynn Le Blanc all worked with her in her home. Of these ladies, only the last three are with us today.

We then moved to the church and taught some ladies to help us. At our first Kibby dinner we served two kibbies, four cabbage rolls, fresh green beans, salad, tea, coffee, Syrian bread, and cakes and pies were sold for dessert. We then taught more church wormen to make kibby and dropped the cabbage rolls and made cabbage jambalaya. As we grew, we then asked the men for help. They began mixing and frying the kibby, helping deliverr take-outs, and assisting with clean up.

We had two ladies at church who taught making kibbies, Martha Nassar Doherty and Wyvonne Harrison Khoury. I'd say every person in our church has helped in one way or another by serving, selling tickets, cooking, baking, being on a committee, helping clean up and many other ways at some time during our years of Kibby dinners. It takes a lot of hard work and about three months of preparation. They also have lots of fun, too!

Around 1975, Arts and Crafts were added to our Kibby Dinners. Also, the youth group took over the desserts at that time. As we continued to grow in 1990, Beryl Rohrman became Chairperson over the Kibby dinners. In 1998, Becky Lovejoy and Maxine Doyle became chairpersons.

The Kibbie dinner is always the Thursday before Mardi Gras. Come join us for lunch or dinner at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. We hope to see you there!
