In September 1950, a group of thirteen families met at the home of Lynn LeBlanc to discuss the formation of an Episcopal mission in Sulphur. Subsequently Bishop Girault Jones sent Fr. Fred W. Kneipp to organize an Episcopal mission in Sulphur. The first service was held on September 3, 1950, in the Sulphur American Legion Hall.
At a church supper held in the Methodist Church annex, on Thursday, September 21, the name Holy Trinity was adopted, and a mission application was filed with 43 persons signing the petition. Those signing the petition were: Jean Barnett, Katherine Butte, Mildred Butte, Mary M. Dillion, Anna N. Griffin, Sheila Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Guillory, Mabel Lewis Kitt, Mrs. Percy LeBlanc, Mrs. W.H. McCurley, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. R.F. McLean, Keith McKeffow, Alfred Meade (who later became a priest), Faye Mequet, A.C. Miller, Clifford Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Durkee Peletier, Mrs. D.S. Perkins, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Reynolds, Marjorie Richardson, Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Rohnnan, R.E. Seavey, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Settoon, Mrs. Estelle Houston Tracy, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Webb, Mrs. Frank White, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wright. Holy Trinity's application for mission status was approved by Bishop Jones November 26, 1950. At the Diocesan convention in Alexandria, January 25, 1951, Holy Trinity was officially accepted into the convention.
June 5th, 1951, a gift of ten acres, on which the present church building stands, was given to Holy Trinity by the Locke-Moore Lumber Company, largely through the efforts of Mr. G. Locke Paret, Sr.
Church services and meetings continued to be held at the American Legion Hall until September 16, 1951, when the church moved to the recreation hall at the Sulphur Mines. Services were first held at the present location on March 16, 1952. Work was begun on a Church School building in April 1953.
Holy Trinity became a parish in January, 1957.
Holy Trinity's first priest in charge, Fr. Fred Kneipp, left in September, 1953. After
he left, services were conducted by Laymen Flippin McLean, Robert Ratliff, Harding Butt,
Robert Rohrnan, and I.W. Russek. Fr. William Gatling became the second priest in charge
in 1954. In 1957, Fr. Robert Bettinger replaced Fr. Gatling and served as rector of Holy
Trinity until January, 1960. In August, 1960, Fr. Nicholas Abraham became Holy Trinity's rector. After Fr. Abraham's retirement in 1984, Fr. John Raish came to Holy Trinity,
assuming his duties as rector on Thursday, February 14, 1985. Fr. Raish left Holy Trinity
in January, 1997. Fr. Hal Hutchison became Holy Trinity's present rector in September, 1997.
Fr. Hal Hutchison left Holy Trinity on December 31, 2006. As of January 1, 2007 Holy Trinity has an interum priest.
Holy Trinity recently celebrated it's 50th Anniversay with special events and activities throughtout the year. To commemorate the event, Virginia Oliver has written a book titled Holy Trinity Episcopal Church The First Fifty Years. The book is available through the church office.
